On our last day of the Inca Trail, we woke up at 4am, sleepily ate our breakfasts, and packed up to wait in line at the checkpoint until it opened at 6:30am. Seeing the sunrise at the Sun Gate wasn’t an option for us because the check point gates don’t open until after sunrise and we still had about two hours of hiking left before we got to Machu Picchu. It really didn’t feel like a loss because the storm […]
Day 2 is no joke. Not only did I need to physically prepare for it, I had to do some mental preps as well. Our day was broken up into 2 main blocks: going up to Dead Woman’s Pass and going down to the campsite. Along the way up, we took a couple breaks together as a group to take in the snow-capped mountain tops. Before we trekked the last, hardest portion of the trail to Dead Woman’s Pass, we […]
Day 1: After one last night in civilization, we headed out bright and early to km 82 by bus where we started our trek on the Inca Trail. Take in the scenes because the first day’s hike is relatively easy; there are some small hills but they’re manageable. Along the way, we passed by some Incan sites strategically built along the Urubamba River. I was blown away at how large and majestic the mountains were–I honestly believe I’ll never see […]
One thing I love about living in San Francisco is how easily I can step outside of the city and see the blue ocean, get some fresh air, and revel in the lushness of the trees. In just a quick drive up the 1 Freeway, you’ll find yourself at Stinson Beach where you can enjoy the beach or hike in the hills. There are several different hiking trails up Mt. Tamalpais, so you’ll have many to choose from based on your skill level, time […]
Today, I finished off 2012 with a brisk hike on the Tennessee Valley hiking trail in Marin. Gained all the burned calories back at Tacolicious in the Mission. And kicked off the New Year watching fireworks on the Embarcadero. I couldn’t have asked for a better year. While there were a couple stumbles along the way, overall 2012 proved to be a great year full of opportunities and belly warming good food.
